Optional Book Project for The World According to Humphrey : A Playground for Humphrey!
Many characters in our book created safe places for Humphrey to explore and play.
- Ch. 1, p.5 – Humphrey remembers how Ms. Mac would make a tunnel on her apartment floor so he could race and wiggle.
- Ch. 6, p. 70 – Miranda lined up books all along the edges of the desk in her bedroom so Humphrey could explore and not fall off.
- Ch. 12, p. 94 – A.J. and Garth used blocks to create a huge maze for Humphrey.
- Ch. 14, p. 112 – The Brisbanes built an obstacle course on their coffee table.
- Ch. 15, p. 117 – Humphrey gets a surprise!
Instructions: Dream up a playground for Humphrey!
- You can create one by drawing on a piece of paper or poster board. Or…
- You can build one in a box or on top of a piece of cardboard (make sure it’s easy to carry to ODE).
- Or, maybe you have another idea. If so, go for it!
Your playground should have fun things to play with, in and on. It should also be safe for a hamster. If you are doing a drawing of your playground, add color, detail and description to make it even more interesting. If you are building a playground, try to use things you find around the house (no need to buy anything!).

Session 4 begins on April 1
We will be reading The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies
