Hello all, I’m George Sarantos and students can call me Mr. S. I grew up in Oak Park and graduated from OPRF in 2018. Following graduation, I went to Triton Community College in River Grove. After completing several courses, I transferred to DePaul University. I’m currently in my senior year majoring in physical education and am scheduled to student teach this upcoming winter.
My philosophy behind wanting to be a gym teacher is that being physically active and healthy impacts several aspects of life inside and outside of our daily occupations. There have been studies showing that students who were physically active before testing scored better than those who did not have physical activity. Learning that physical activity can impact other classes outside the gymnasium sparked a passion in me to spread the knowledge of how to live a healthier life.
In my free time I enjoy being outdoors and participating in action sports. During the summer I love to go kayaking and skateboarding, while in the winter I go snowboarding. I also enjoy traveling, especially road trips. Last summer I made a cross country road trip spending the majority of my time in Colorado, California, and Oregon. One of my favorite things about traveling is it gives me the opportunity to take part in my favorite action sports in new settings.

Throughout the school year I plan to educate students on how to be physically active and I will encourage them to try new activities and to find an activity/sport they find fun and see themselves participating in outside of the gymnasium. My vision is to make the gymnasium a safe space where students can compete against themselves and see their own progress and growth throughout the year.
