What is ODE and who is it for?
ODE is a one day a week educational program designed for homeschooled children. ODE offers enrichment-type classes to augment the education of your child, classes that can be more effectively taught in a group. Each class upholds a high standard of excellence, and a syllabus is available at the beginning of every session for the parent to know exactly what their child will be learning and doing.
What classes do you offer?
Are classes organized by grades?
Elementary-age children are divided in the following groups: Dolphin Swimmers (1st/2nd grade), Time Travelers (2nd/3rd grade), Banana Smoothies (3rd/4th grade), Seahorses (4th/5th grade), and Dragons (5th/6th grade). We also have junior high and senior high school classes – divided into Yellow (7th & 8th), Blue (9th & 10), and Red (11th & 12th ). As a homeschooling parent, no one knows your child better than you. The age/grade guidelines are general, and you should place your child in the class you think is most appropriate. Adjustments can be made as classes get underway, also with the input of the teacher. We are pleased to offer preschool and kindergarten for children aged 3-5. Our preschool is not limited to homeschool families.
What should students bring?
Students are expected to have a 3-ring binder with dividers to bring each week, along with paper and pencils. Students should pack their own lunch. Several classes have required texts or other materials. This information will be clearly communicated.
What about homework?
Homework will be posted on the website each week, and we strongly encourage students to complete the homework to get the most out of the classes they are taking. They will also enjoy a great sense of accomplishment – one of the best experiences we enjoy in life. Parents should help students know how to go online each week to find their homework, and schedule a time each day to do the work. A little a day is so much more effective than scrambling on Thursday evening. ODE does not issue grades, nor will there be negative consequences for being unprepared. However, the accountability to the teacher and fellow students does provide great motivation. We are committed to excellence and to helping your child learn and grow.
