Hello Dolphin Swimmers!
The Time Travelers and the Banana Smoothies are reading a book about a boy who takes care of a baby skunk (called a kit). If you think you would like to try reading this book, go for it! It’s called A Boy Called Bat by Elana K. Arnold.
Meanwhile, I thought I’d find a story about a skunk for this week. In this YouTube video, you can listen to a book called The Skunk by Mac Barnett. I like the way the reader shows the words first, and then shows the pictures. Go ahead and try to read along!
After you have read the story once, read it again and listen for these words:
hailed a cab
If you don’t know what they mean, try to figure it out by looking at the pictures, or thinking about the other words in the sentence. If you still can’t figure it out, ask someone, or try looking the word up in a dictionary. (I look up words all the time when I am reading. It helps me understand the story better, and it helps me learn new words, too!)
Just for fun…

When you finish drawing your skunk, post a picture of it on the ODE Facebook page, or email me a picture – I would LOVE to see it!
The skunk followed the man through a sculpture garden. A sculpture garden is a park with lots of sculptures by different artists. You can walk around the park and look at all the different sculptures. They are usually big and quite interesting. Sometimes you have to figure out what they are by walking all around the sculptures. Here is a link to the sculpture garden at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.:
There are sculpture gardens all over the country, and all over the world. Have someone help you look up more sculpture gardens online. Let me know if you find one you really like!
