Circulatory System – science for Dolphin Swimmers and Time Travelers

The Circulatory System

Welcome back from break!  We have moved on to a unit about our bodies.  Today we learned a little about our hearts, lungs, and the circulatory system.  The students learned how to take their pulse and how their heart rate is affected by exercise.  We watched a video and played a simple circulatory system game.  In the game, the students could see how red blood cells pick up oxygen, where it comes from and where it goes, and how the blood carries sugars and proteins from the small intestines and brings waste to the kidneys.

Here are some questions you can ask your child:

  • Was there anything the surprised you when you were feeling your pulse (heartbeat)?
  • What kinds of things are carried by your blood?
  • What do you think you could do to keep your heart healthy?
