1:00PM - 2:00PM
In the Heights, Lion King, Frozen, Tangled and Transformers: the Last Knight all have something in common. They are all based on stories originally written hundreds of years ago! This year we will explore the tales, legends, plays, mysteries and more that inspired these and others like them. Get ready to read about the exploits of Robin Hood, the legends of King Arthur, the life of a Shakespearean actor, and the ghostly encounters of Scrooge, among others.
Expectations: At the beginning of each new session, I will post a list of the required reading. My expectation is that the student will come to class having read the assigned material. Most weeks I will require the student to complete a related writing assignment as well. We will spend some time together working on writing style and content. In addition, there will be one or two tests per session. But that is not to say that we will not find time for some fun! Many weeks there will be interesting in-class activities that will build on what we are learning. I try to schedule an occasional movie night at my house and possibly a field trip or two each year.
Required Materials: Each student should come to the first class with a three-ring notebook and notepaper. We will be adding book reports, writing assignments, vocabulary words, favorite quotations, etc. to this Book Journal throughout the year.
I look forward to reading and learning together!
