Academy Literature S1-21

Josh Ginter

This class is not active

British Literature

Last year we explored some of the earliest epic Greek poetry and ancient dramas. This year will build on that base. We will travel forward to Medieval Britain and its Arthurian legends and the Anglo-Saxon epic of Beowulf. The age of the Renaissance will follow with an in-depth study of Shakespeare’s plays and sonnets. In the spring we will read some popular Victorian novels by Jane Austen and Charles Dickens. Moving on, we will compare some darker “monsters” of that age. And finally, a novel based in Britain but not populated by people...you will have to join us to find out what’s in store! (I like to have the class to my house a couple times a year for related movie nights; there is also the possibility of a field trip or two.)

Expectations

Weekly reading and writing assignments will be posted through an online program. The student will be expected to check that site each week and come to class with all work done thoroughly and thoughtfully. There will be approximately two tests per session. During Session One I will spend time teaching and reviewing the writing style and format needed for the required essays.

Required Materials

Please bring a three-ring notebook and lined paper. We will be adding Major Works Reviews, writing assignments, vocabulary, concepts, etc. to this Class Journal throughout the year.

I look forward to working and learning together!
