CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Throughout the school year I plan to educate students on how to be physically active, I will encourage them to try new activities and games. I will also teach them the basics and importance of stretching to prevent injury and to increase range of motion. Students will work independently and in small groups with the goal of participating in a healthy competition once skills are refined. My goal is to make the gymnasium a safe space where students can learn and have fun while being physically active.
Class will run on a routine that is followed each session. Classes will begin with a simple warm up to ease into the session. After students have warmed up, they will begin a guided instruction to stretching the sets of muscles that will be used during the lesson. After stretching comes the lesson plan for the day. Students will be taught the activity then will have the time to practice these skills individually or in groups. Once students have become proficient with the skill(s) being taught, they will be given the opportunity to use these skills in the setting of a competition. When games are being played it is essential for students to show good sportsmanship and to play fair. Showing respect towards others and being supportive is essential for succeeding in the gymnasium. The only supplies necessary to have everyday are gym shoes (closed toe) and clothing that allows for unrestricted movement.
Best wishes, Mr. S
