Gail Kelsey, 4'S & 5's. Gail has a BA in Child Development and Family Life. She taught four years at Lydia Home's day care program in Chicago. The youngest of her five children is almost thirteen; some are homeschooled and some are in school. Two are out on their own;she has one grandchild. She is excited about getting back into teaching the young ones again.
Donna Gallo, Mom's Day Out - 3 & 4 year-olds. Following a career in office management, Donna turned to homeschooling her two boys ten years ago. Many years of Awana and Sunday School teaching followed, and Donna has found her calling working with young children. Donna has spent years working with ODE's preschoolers, and substituting regularly. She looks forward to another year of teaching full days.
Matt Kudo, Elementary, Unit Study. Matt has a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Concordia University River Forest, and a bachelorís degree in Mechanical Engineering from Valparaiso University. He worked as an engineer and estimator in the fire protection industry for seven years, but his passions lie in teaching and coaching. He currently enjoys coaching 9-13 year old competitive swimming for Team Millennium in Oak Park for the last five years, and has worked as a team leader, director, and commander in the AWANA program at Calvary Memorial Church.
Karina Jacks, Elementary, Jr. High, & High School Art. Karina graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Art Education. Since school she's spent her time teaching in various capacities, from traditional school settings to community centers. Whatever model she fits her teaching into, it always encourages hands on discovery, collaboration and an outlet for self-expression.
Malcolm Burges Jr., Elementary, Junior High, & High School, PE. Malcom is a 1st Degree Black Belt Taekwondo (proficiency in Braziliain Ju-Jitsu, Krav Maga, Kick Boxing, and Tai Chi) as well as a Certified Persona Trainer and Certified TACTIX Instructor. He is recently retired from a career in social services specializing in providing vocation and life skills training.
Sarah Wagner, Elementary, Math & Geometry. Sarah has a B.A. in Youth Ministry from Moody Bible Institute and an M.A. in Linguistics at Northeastern Illinois University, and currently works as an ESL and mathematics tutor in the Chicagoland area. Having experienced both homeschooling and traditional classroom environments, Sarah uniquely understands the benefits of individualized education as well as the necessity for group interaction. She is an experienced teacher who enjoys helping her students turn book knowledge into life application.
Bill Lyons, Elementary Science. Bill graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a B.A. in Communications. His teaching experience includes service at St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Chicago where he taught third and fourth grade for nine years. Bill has also taught Kids Church for several years at Greater Chicago Church in Oak Park. While he strives to help his students learn important facts and information, it is also his goal to lead them to an understanding of the concepts behind the facts.
